This is a dedicated Bluetooth unit: it has a range of output options, but the only way it can receive a signal is from a Bluetooth device (smartphone, tablet, computer). iFi did not pay in part or full for the review of the Zen Blue. The sound is an improvement over how I normally would listen to my Macbook which is via the headphone jack into RCA analog inputs.

The Blue’s analogue output stage eschews the affordable price point and is a balanced design incorporating professional-grade balanced line drivers, C0G capacitors from TDK, and a precision low-noise power supply IC from Texas Instruments. So really, the ZEN Blue could very well be an affordable solution for adding wireless connectivity to a sound system (provided it has the appropriate inputs), but it’s just not compatible with the rest of iFi’s current ZEN lineup. But now, it seems that iFi is trying to reach a new crowd; iFi has just released a weirdly affordable Hi-Res Bluetooth streamer, the Zen Blue, at $129.
